How to Sell a Coolant Flush (Without Sounding Pushy)

A coolant flush drains the old antifreeze, removes built-up scale and rust, and refills with fresh coolant at the correct mix. It restores the fluid's ability to move heat and its corrosion protection.

Why it matters to the customer

Coolant additives wear out. Spent coolant turns acidic and eats water pumps, radiators, heater cores, and gaskets from the inside — the exact parts that cause a roadside overheat. Fresh coolant is cheap insurance against a tow and a four-figure repair.

Signs it's due

When to recommend it

Typically every 5 years or 60,000–100,000 miles depending on coolant type.

How to present it on the drive

This is the #1 pairing service. If there's ANY cooling work on the RO — radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses — the system is already being drained, so the flush is mostly free labor. Lead with that.

Handling the "no"

"Can't I just top it off?"
Topping off adds fluid but doesn't fix the problem — the additives that stop corrosion are already used up, and you'd be diluting good coolant with worn-out coolant. The flush actually resets the protection.
"It's not overheating."
Right, and the goal is to keep it that way. By the time it overheats you're usually looking at a water pump or radiator too. We caught it on the schedule, which is the cheap moment to handle it.

A ready-to-send customer text

Hi [name] — since we've already got the cooling system open for the [radiator/water pump] on your [vehicle], the smart move is to flush the coolant while we're in there. The old fluid's worn out and the labor's basically already done. Want me to include it?
