How to Sell a A/C Service & Recharge (Without Sounding Pushy)
An A/C service checks the system, recovers the old refrigerant, and recharges to the correct amount — often with dye to spot leaks.
Why it matters to the customer
Low refrigerant means warm air and an overworked compressor. Catching and dyeing a small leak early is far cheaper than replacing a compressor that ran low and burned up.
Signs it's due
- Air not as cold as it used to be
- Compressor cycling rapidly
- Refrigerant reads low on the gauges
- Warm air only at idle
When to recommend it
As needed — recommend before summer or when cooling drops off.
How to present it on the drive
Seasonal and symptom-driven. If cooling is weak, service it and add dye so the next visit pinpoints the leak while it's fresh — set that expectation up front.
Handling the "no"
"Can't you just add more?"
We can recharge it, but if it's low there's a leak somewhere — so we put dye in with the charge. That way when it drops again we can pinpoint the leak fast instead of guessing. It's the honest way to do it right.
A ready-to-send customer text
Hey [name] — the AC on your [vehicle] is low, which is why it's not blowing as cold. We'll recharge it and add UV dye so if it leaks again we can find it fast. Want me to get it cold for you before the heat?
