How to Sell a Engine Air Filter (Without Sounding Pushy)

The engine air filter keeps dirt and debris out of the engine's intake. A clean filter lets the engine breathe; a clogged one restricts airflow.

Why it matters to the customer

A restricted filter can hurt throttle response and fuel economy and, when it gets bad enough, lets grit past into the engine. It's a cheap part with a clear before/after.

Signs it's due

When to recommend it

Every 15,000–30,000 miles, sooner in dusty conditions.

How to present it on the drive

Show it. Pair naturally with the cabin filter and spark plugs. Keep the pitch honest — only recommend when it's actually dirty.

Handling the "no"

"Didn't I just do that?"
Let's check the records — if it's recent we'll skip it. If it's the original at [mileage], here's what it looks like now.

A ready-to-send customer text

Hey [name] — your engine air filter is due and it's pretty loaded up. Since the [vehicle] is already here, want me to swap it while we do the spark plugs? Small cost, helps the throttle and MPG.
