How to Sell a Spark Plug Replacement (Without Sounding Pushy)

Spark plugs ignite the fuel-air mixture. Over time the electrode wears and the gap widens, which weakens the spark and forces the ignition coils to work harder.

Why it matters to the customer

Worn plugs cause misfires, rough idle, hard starts, lost power, and worse fuel economy — and a chronic misfire can cook an expensive catalytic converter. Replacing plugs on schedule protects the coils and the cat.

Signs it's due

When to recommend it

Copper ~30k; iridium/platinum 60,000–100,000 miles.

How to present it on the drive

Spark plugs and a fuel induction service are the classic pair — the intake is often already accessible, and clean injectors + fresh plugs restore the "runs like new" feeling together. Bundle them.

Handling the "no"

"It runs fine to me."
It might feel normal because the change is gradual — but you're due at [mileage], and worn plugs quietly cost you MPG and lean on your coils. Doing them on time is far cheaper than a coil or a converter later.
"Why so much labor?"
On your engine the plugs sit under the intake, so most of the cost is access — which is exactly why it's smart to do the fuel induction at the same time while we're already in there.

A ready-to-send customer text

Hi [name] — your [vehicle] is due for spark plugs, and since we're already getting to the intake, now's the right time to knock out the fuel induction service too. Together they'll bring back the power and MPG. Want me to bundle them?
