How to Sell a Wheel Alignment (Without Sounding Pushy)
An alignment sets the angles of the wheels to spec so they point straight and sit flat. It corrects pulling and uneven tire wear caused by potholes, curbs, and normal wear.
Why it matters to the customer
A car out of alignment scrubs the tires, wearing out an expensive set early and pulling to one side. Aligning protects the tire investment and keeps the car tracking straight.
Signs it's due
- Pulls to one side
- Uneven or feathered tire wear
- Steering wheel off-center when driving straight
- After new tires or suspension work
When to recommend it
Yearly, with new tires, or after any steering/suspension repair.
How to present it on the drive
Always attach to a tire sale or any suspension work — new tires with no alignment is money down the drain, and customers get that instantly.
Handling the "no"
"My car drives straight."
It can still be out enough to wear the tires without pulling — the alignment printout shows the actual angles. If yours are in spec I'll show you and we move on.
"Do I really need it with new tires?"
This is the one time I'd really push: putting new tires on a car that's out of alignment can wear them unevenly in a few thousand miles. Aligning now protects the set you just bought.
A ready-to-send customer text
Hi [name] — with the new tires going on your [vehicle], an alignment protects them from wearing out early. The angles were off on the check we ran. Want me to align it so the new set lasts?
